Miscellaneous papers, 1848-1918.

Correspondence, recommendations, pardon papers, appointment notices, election results, muster rolls, reports, and other documents addressed to and from the governor's office. Some documents directed to the Secretary of State as well. Most documents relate to political appointments of civil officers. Also contains federal notices, such as a copy of the Emancipation Proclamation and telegrams announcing Lee's surrender at Appomatox Courthouse. Some files arranged chronologically and topically; others with no apparent order. Documents for 1850-1868 indexed by the MARYLAND INDEXES Governors Records, Index [MSA S1476].
